My new book, 'Tigers Don't Eat Jelly!' is out now!

In 2024, I came up with an idea for a new picture book, about a tiger who loves to eat jelly and goes on an adventure to find more foods she might like. I wanted it to be humorous and have a fun storyline, so I began creating different characters Tiger could meet and thinking of all the foods she could try.

The book was commissioned by Fox and Ink Books and began as a script and I worked with Jasmine Dove to perfect the text. From there, I created a storyboard and worked with Becky Chilcott to create a layout for the book from start to finish. Creating a storyboard helps to make sure the pacing of the book is suitable and every spread has variety. Once we were happy, it was time to go to colour!

The illustrations are all painted by hand with gouache with pencil crayon for the details. Leaving in the paint texture is a technique I like to use to give the paintings personality and warmth.

Once all the paintings are complete, they are all then scanned and placed into photoshop to create one digital file which can then be added to the layout for the book, ready to be printed and made into a real book!

There are lots of little details to spot in the book, for example, a little mouse is hiding somewhere, a photo on Tiger's wall of her time with Elephant, a book in Tiger's room with some butterflies on the cover you can spot throughout the book and an elephant soft toy.

Tigers Don't Eat Jelly! is now available to buy from Waterstones, TGJones, Blackwells and independent bookshops etc. As always, it is so exciting to see it on shelves and hopefully it brings lots of laughs to anyone who purchases it!
